About the Authors, About the ManualThis manual has been written by Lev Lafayette, Information and Communications Technology Policy Advisor for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation for the Democratic Republic of East Timor, a position funded through Australian Volunteers International. Technical and other illustrations as well as illustrative research has been provided by Victoria Jankowski, who kindly volunteered three weeks of her time in February 2003 to visit East Timor and assist directly with the project. The careful and painstaking process of editing and proofreading was provided voluntarily by Erica Hoehn. The Manual was initially composed in gedit and pico text processors, Microsoft Word and the Open Office Writer module, and Adobe Photoshop 7.0 and Microsoft Visio before being formatted according to the xhtml standards of the World Wide Web consortium. The Manual confirms with the restrictions of a GNU Free Documentation License. It was written and edited between February and May, 2003. Lev Lafayette has a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Politics, Philosophy and Sociology from Murdoch University, and has recently completed a PhD at the Department of History and Philosophy of Science at the University of Melbourne on "Social Theory of the Internet". Victoria Jankowski has a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Fine Arts from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. Erica Hoehn has a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in English Literature and Media Studies from Edith Cowan University, Western Australia. She is an employee of Media Monitors, Australia. Special thanks is given to the members of the ITTimor mailing list managed through Yahoo! Groups for their assistance both in the production of this manual and elsewhere (http://egroups.yahoo.com/ittimor). The manual has been translated and printed by the United Nations Development Program. |
